MARINE REEF MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Marine Reef is to provide free, quality public education on marine life and the conditions of marine habitats, their impact on the global environment and a balanced view of efforts to protect them.

WELCOME

Welcome to the official Marine Reef Web site. It is my pleasure to bring you the most extensive marine biology site on the Web and hope you enjoy its many beautiful images and rich content. This site was developed to bring a better public awareness to issues concerning marine life conservation, in particular coral reef management. Coral reef protection will become one of the most important environmental issues as we enter the 21st century, and only through a balanced understanding of the economic and natural stresses that are placed on reefs will we be able to implement effective legislation to protect them. Australia has had long standing and effective laws protecting their coral reefs and the U.S. has recently followed its lead with the adoption of the Coral Reef Initiative. However, these laws only protect a small portion of the worlds reefs and much more needs to be done to insure their survival, as well as the survival of the oceans as we know them today.

Enjoy the site and visit us often to get the latest environmental news and to view the latest additions.

Best Wishes,
Paul DeGeorge
